When should you stop massaging your child?

Posted: March 25th, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: masage supplies | Tags: , , , | 8 Comments »

I have a 27 month old boy and since he was born I’ve been giving him a full body massage every other day (everyday when he was an infant), but I’ve begun to wonder when it becomes inappropriate to do full body massages compared to say just a back massage or maybe a leg massage?
For even more detail he is nude minus a clothe covering his genitalia so he doesn’t pee on me. Should I wean off upper leg massages? They’ve never seemed inappropriate to me before but the usual big mouth has me second guessing myself. (Yes I know it is usually best not to listen to ‘big mouths’)
Thanks for anyone who can help.

At twenty seven months he is still a young child. If he still enjoys the massages then I don’t think theres any inappropriate about it.

why do you massage him in the first place?

Umm ya, just slowly work your way out of it, I mean massaging is great but you shouldn’t be giving him one everday.

i think it’s an individual family thing. every family has their own preferences on this type of thing, and i think you need to decide what you want for your family, and stick to it, unless anyone in the family objects.

if its not uncomfortable to you, and your son enjoys it i dont see why you would need to stop. usually they will tell you on their own when they dont wanna sit still, and thats when you let them go. its not inapropriate if you are not being inapropriate.

Maybe dont massage him in public. And lessen the massages to back rubs. As he gets older see if he becomes less interested in it or gets tired of it.

It seems to me that if what you are doing isn’t inappropriate, it isn’t going to become so later!
If he is enjoying the massage, continue. I’d be willing to bet he’ll decide he has outgrown it before it actually would become “inappropriate”.
