Question by Dave: For massage therapists: What is the best way to heat massage oil and keep it hot.?
I want to use hot oil for Swedish massage. I can heat the oil in water on the stove, but this is inconvenient. My kitchen is not anywhere near my massage area. I have seen commercial warmers for massage oil bottles on-line, but they are expensive (0 for a three-bottle warmer). I have tried a baby bottle warmer and a cup-warming plate, but they don’t get hot enough. This is for personal use for my wife and me, so I don’t want to spend a lot of money. Additionally, what is the best way to heat and keep basalt rocks for massage warm? What do you massage therapists out there use or recommend?
Best answer:
Answer by actingluver09 It seems like you’ve tried everything to keep your oil hot. If you are planning to use this alot, I think that in the long run it would be better to a commercial warmer from online. To keep the basalt rocks warm, boil a lot hot water. Then put it in a basin and put the rocks in. Make sure it’s REALLY hot. When it starts to cool down, remove the hot rocks and get another basin of hot water. Put the rocks in there to keep them hot. You can carry the basin to where ever you want it.
If you are in the market wanting to buy a massage table then it is important for you to keep in mind the purpose of such table for instance, do you plan to buy such table in order to use it at your own establishment or home? Or is this an item that you will have to be moving around constantly which is the case of masseuses who provide their services in many different places?
There are many types of massage tables however you will only be able to find the perfect one if you keep in mind the following tips:
Width
Buying a wide massage table will be a lot more comfortable for your client but can often have a rather noticeable downside and that is the level of comfort that the person providing the service gets throughout the whole session in other words, if you have to bend your body at a certain angle for a long period of time then you are very likely not going to be very happy with your purchase.
Height
This is yet another important factor to consider when buying a massage table, normal massage tables should be high enough to prevent you from bending your body at a certain angle and becoming fatigued so the greater the height the better.
If you are someone that provides a service to certain clients then it would be in your best interest to go for a portable massage table because you can take these anywhere and both their height and width are just right for service providers.
Arms
Thinking about the position of your client arms while you are providing the service is of critical importance because the whole purpose of providing a therapeutic service is to help your client relax and feel better therefore investing in a portable massage table that provides both shoulder and arm support is very important.
Type
Depending on how you’re going to use your massage table you have several options to choose from such as standard tables which have limited moving parts and are usually designed to be stationary, electric types which have several moving parts along with a hydraulic system to help you adjust the height and angle of the moving parts and last but not least the portable type which is highly flexible and it’s been designed for those service providers who are always on the go and don’t want to carry around an extremely heavy massage table.
Comfort
Last but not least you must always keep in mind that level of comfort that you provide to your client will be the determining factor of whether or not your business succeeds so above all else make sure to try the table yourself and if you feel comfortable enough for a few minutes then you have found the piece of equipment you have been looking for.

You don’t have to take an aromatherapy massage course in order to give someone a satisfying aromatherapy massage. A lot of that course will talk about becoming a professional masseuse and may even go into how to run your own business. Although that’s important for people planning on becoming professionals, it’s not necessary for amateurs at aromatherapy body massage to learn.
Keep Your Hands Warm
One of the most important things you need to keep in mind about giving a loved one an aromatherapy body massage is the temperature of your hands. Although they will soon warm up, the sudden shock of frigid fingers will make your loved one tense up and quite possibly hit the roof. That’s not conducive with getting a relaxing massage.
Not only are your hands to be kept warm, but also the oil, lotion or alcohol rub you’re about to slather onto your loved one’s bare skin. You can keep the oil warm by placing the dish of oil over a tea light candle (much in the same way a candle food warmer is used) or you can stick the dish under the radiator for a few minutes.
Don’t Massage Bones Or Wounds
Your loved one will probably tell you how uncomfortable it is, but some people are too polite to speak up. When you are giving an aromatherapy body massage, don’t rub the spine, ribs or other bones. You can stroke the area like you are petting a cat or dog, but don’t do any circular rubbing, kneading or other maneuvers.
Likewise, avoid touching any wounds. Half-healed scratches or really minor wounds are not to be worried about, but things like deep cuts, broken bones or some other injury can worsen if you touch them or get aromatherapy oil into them. But still, an aromatherapy body massage on all other parts of the body can help the patient relax and recuperate.
Let Your Intuition Guide You
It often doesn’t matter just what kind of hand positions you do when giving an aromatherapy body massage for relaxation or to kindle some romance. Just having a warm touch can help soothe. Remember how you like to be rubbed and transfer that to the person. Let them know to tell you whenever something doesn’t feel right. Many people have had a professional massage before and they can help you with some particular finger and thumb movements with their aromatherapy body massage.
