Generic massage oil recipe that you can then add your own scented oils to?

Posted: June 2nd, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: masage supplies | Tags: , , , , | 9 Comments »

I’m looking for a recipe generic enough that serves as a base oil for the different scented massage oils I’d like to make.

As well- the first scented massage oil I’d like to make is Lavender, if you have any special recipes for that particular scent.

Thanks a lot!

the best oil that i have found out to work as far as adding anything to it for scent is olive oil..it is already good for your skin so that in itself is a benefit and as far as scents go..i found that the best thing to use is a few drips of your favorite body spray from victoria secret’s or bath and body…and for a warming feel, add a drop or two of eucalyptus oil..i get mine from bath and body..put it in the microwave for a few seconds just to warm and then use it..trust me it is wonderful…

One of the best massage oil bases is coconut oil. You can buy it in most health food stores. It’s cheap, yet good for the skin, liquifies quickly, smooths on nicely, and your scented oil will blend in well. You will have to warm the coconut oil in the microwave or emerse the jar in a bowl of hot water, but that is easy to do.

It helps to know the effects of each oil when you are mixing them. For example you would never know grapefruit mixes nicely with Lavender, both relieve anxiety, so the effect is double.

Try this experiment with Lavender and you’ll get a really good idea of how essential oils work transdermally. Take a drop of Lavender “neat” and rub it on your cheek about an inch from the corner of your mouth. Wait a couple minutes and move your tongue around that area inside your mouth. You should be able to smell & taste the oil.

I found this site for your reference. Have fun with it and good luck.

Oh yeah … as far as oils, grapeseed oil is a good nuetral base, jojoba oil is expensive but great for the skin, almond is a bit cheaper and makes a wonderful base.

I like to make a base oil that is about 2/3 sweet almond, and 1/3 jojoba. Lavender is a strong essential oil and so you will not need much to scent this base. As a rule of thumb, to produce the best results use a maximum of 10 drops of essential oil to a teaspoon of base oil.

Steep lavender leaves in a little baby oil, then strain to remove the leaves. Some of the newer baby oils do not have a fragrance, and don’t feel as oily, so as you massage them into your skin, they do not leve an oily residue.

This may be quite concentrated, so add a little more baby oil, so the fragrance suits you.

Be careful not to boil the oil.

You can also buy essence of lavender oil (or many other fragrances) at a local apothecary shop – and sometimes in a grocery store that sells oils.

Be sure you label your container.

    Good luck
